Being holy

Moses, when teaching the laws of holiness, God promised that it is indeed possible for people to remain faithful to these standards of behavior.

Lev 20:7 Therefore sanctify yourselves and be holy, for I am the LORD your God.

Sages assure us that when we sanctify ourselves, even if it is in a small way, God helps us to become holy in a great way. When we resist the urge to indulge in some material pleasure, we generate an increase in holiness and spiritual energy, which then penetrates and rests within us.

This verse, then, can be interpreted as follows:

“Sanctify yourself,” that is, act in some holy way, even if such behavior seems beyond your current spiritual level, and you “will be holy” because the Lord sanctifies you.

Ultimately you will reach this level of holiness, because of the intimacy with God that will come through Yeshua.
